Cleaning and Maintanance of a Bamboo Floor

A good quality dust mop is the most effective tool for cleaning dust and dirt off of the floor. To keep your floors looking their best, dust mop at least twice a week to remove loose dirt or grit before it can scratch the surface of your floors.  Water and bamboo floors do not mix. Never wet-mop your floor, and always clean up spills and standing water immediately.  With water, or any other cleaning agent, be sure to thoroughly ring out the applicator or mop prior to applying it to the floor.  A damp mop is fine as long as the moisture is limited to an amount that will evaporate almost immediately.  Moisture that is allowed to seep into the seams between planks will damage your flooring. Moisture damage is not covered by the warranty. Oils from asphalt driveways or roads will tend to leave a stain. Be sure to clean shoes and entry mats well. In addition to cleaning with water, it may be necessary to clean the floor with a good quality floor cleaner for bamboo flooring. DO NOT USE: steel wool, scouring powder, abrasive cleaners or detergents on your bamboo flooring. Grease, tar or oil can be removed with a cloth that is dampened with light mineral spirits. This usually lifts lipstick, crayon and most rubber scuffs. To help guard against scratches and dents, place protective pads under furniture legs and chairs. Make sure the protective pads are large enough to distribute weight evenly. Use at least one-inch wide soft vinyl or rubber rollers when necessary. The ball type casters may damage your flooring. If your bamboo flooring is adjacent to an exterior door, place doormats outside at the entrance to keep dirt and grit from being tracked inside.  The 50-year finish and wear warranty does not make your floor resistant to scratching and denting. Many sharp objects can easily scratch the finish of a hardwood floor.  Care and preventative maintenance must be used to keep your new floor looking as beautiful as it is when first installed.
